It’s that time of year again! The Beverley 10km run is 86 days away and after a few technical difficulties with registration, all 1550 places have been filled. Sunday 10th May is certainly looking to host a memorable race for participants, spectators and the town as a whole! In its 22nd year, the race starts outside the beautiful Beverley Minster, passes through the medieval North Bar and across the stunning Beverley Westwood, towards Walkington before returning to Beverley Market Place for the finish line on Toll Gavel.

You may remember a few brave Stipendia directors took on the 2014 challenge and, motivated to raise money for our chosen charity, Lynne and Jonathan, along with Marketing Intern Jack, have taken on the challenge again. The male course record currently stands at 30:17, set by Andy Lyons in 1995 and the best female time of 34:54 was set by Lizzie Adams in 2010. Without underestimating my colleagues, I suspect a record breaking time will not be on the cards however with Lynne and Jonathan achieving times of 58.35 and 59.56 respectively in the 2014 race, a very respectable time can be expected as both will be looking to improve on last year’s result. First time 10km runner Jack has set a target of 60 minutes to complete the race but will definitely be happy with completing the race before the roads reopen after 80 minutes! Prizes are awarded for the fastest individuals, veterans, under 18s and teams and although it is unlikely Team Stipendia will be scooping up an award, our 3 runners will be participating for a different reason.

For the 2015 race, Team Stipendia will be running for the charity Motorvation, a charity committed to transporting disabled people and their carers. It was established to enable wheel chair users to have freedom and independence to reach their pursuits in social, domestic and leisure activities, allowing them to break out of their isolated surroundings with increased confidence. The charity is close to the heart of the company and does great work in the local community. We’ll keep our social media informed with fundraising updates but we hope to make a real positive impact with donations and help Motorvation to continue to provide their extremely valuable service.
With 12 weeks, 2 days, 23 hours, 20 minutes and 16 seconds to go at the time of writing, training starts now! We’re looking forward to the day and raising some money for a cause that we really believe in.
